I Have A Right

A touch based interactive video mural created in collaboration with children.

I Have A Right is an interactive installation that allows participants to explore the Charter of the Rights of the Child, a social experiment that originated in the city of Hamilton that asked children to identify and express what they deem to be their own rights. The right to play, privacy, access to food and water, self-expression, a clean environment…the children of Hamilton identified 18 rights they deemed important. The installation playfully brings the charter to life through interactive audio, video and tangible interfaces. The user can turn a wheel to go through 18 different scenes that give expression to an individual right. Each scene creates a unique interactive experience.

Created in collaboration with Tyler Tekatch Joseph Browne, and Drew MacEachern. Kyle Duffield was the interaction designer and software programmer for this project. Commissioned by Culture for Kids in the Arts and the Best Start Network. Featuring artwork by Hamilton children and John VanDuzer. Fabrication by Andrew Fleming.
